On the JJ Barnes Blog, I’m sharing my top tips for how to fill your days off over the holidays with fulfilling festive activities to keep your kids entertained, connect with friends and loved ones, and turn your time off into joyful, memorable experiences!
You may find yourself with more time on your hands around the holidays. This can be good if you keep busy and entertained.
You don’t want to sit around feeling bored and wasting this time. Instead, make a plan now for what you may want to do so you can work some options into your schedule. You can choose activities you can do by yourself or with others. What matters is that you review and find some fun ways to fill your days off over the holidays so it’s a positive experience.
Go to the Theatre

One option is to review all of the different West End Shows and reserve your tickets to the theatre. It’s best to act now because many of these shows are popular and will fill up fast. There are a variety of choices depending on what you’re in the mood for. For example, you can see a musical, play, or comedy. It’s an opportunity to be entertained and watch all of the talented stars live on stage. Get dressed up and make a night of it by grabbing some food at a fancy eatery beforehand.
Play Board Games

You may also not be in the mood to leave the house, but want to be entertained. Staying in can be enjoyable as well. One idea is to gather with friends or family and play some board games. Board games are fun and will keep you entertained for hours. You may also want to get out and play card games when you get tired of the other types of games. If you are feeling active and want to move around, then challenge each other to a round of charades. You can make family game night even better by serving some good snacks and putting on a movie in the background.
Draw, Paint, or Write

You may also decide that you want to get creative during your time off. You may not have the chance to use your creativity at your weekly job, which may deal more with numbers, facts, or figures. Fill your time off over the holidays by drawing, painting, or writing and applying your imagination and creativity. If you have a blog of your own, now is a good chance to get caught up and come up with some future content you want to post. If the kids are around, then it may be fun and relaxing to do some arts and crafts with them.
Get Outside

Another fun way to fill your days off over the holidays is to get outside. There are many exciting activities you can do in the wintertime that you aren’t able to do in the summer. For example, you can go ice skating outdoors, head to the sledding hill, or take a nature walk or hike in the snow. Be sure to bring your camera to capture the scenic views. You can also walk around the neighbourhood during dusk and check out the Christmas lights. The fresh air and chill will wake you up and will re-energise you. You can come home to change into comfortable and warm clothing, and make some hot cocoa to enjoy by the fire.
